A high tide at the salt marsh in Carpinteria. We're still in a time of drought, but it's amazing how quickly the grateful earth greens up with even just a little rain.
Something I really love about paintings is the magic of how something as massive as a mountain can fit, with the whole feeling of its bulk, into something as small as a postcard.
In my mind's eye I walk the mountains and marvel at them.
I'm happy when I'm outdoors. I grew up in Southern California in a camping, geologizing, ocean-loving family; spent time in my early adulthood on the beaches around Santa Barbara, living in tents at craft fairs, gardening, backpacking, mountain biking. Many things came into focus for me when I discovered plein air painting, my best way of being outdoors. Painting encompasses all of my interess, experiences, loves; the gorgeous smells of dirt, my dad's minerals, tree-climbing, the quiet before birdsong starts, the support of my family, the goodness of food, sun, moving water. I strive to make my paintings convey some of the joy, excitement, and peace that I experience in the making of them. I welcome questions and comments; you can reach me at ellen.yeomans@gmail.com
